The distribution model for Hollywood blockbusters during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020
In the wake of the pandemic, the traditional mode of theatrical release has been disrupted, and Hollywood has had to shift its focus to alternative methods of distribution, such as releasing films on streaming platforms. This shift has been necessitated by the closure of movie theaters and the need for social distancing, which has made it difficult for people to gather in large groups to watch movies. This chapter examines the challenges that Hollywood has faced in adapting to this new distribution model. One of the biggest challenges is the impact on the traditional "release window," which refers to the period of time between a movie's theatrical release and its availability for home viewing.
